Today was an eventful day in 4th grade. We had simple machines again today so they built cars, elevations, etc.
Tonight Mark, I and possible Bethany are going to go play basketball with high school kids. Looking forward to the great workout and getting to know people.

Simple Machines during school
Today was my first full day in the classroom. It was a great day and a lot of fun! I learn more and more everyday when I am there!
Here is a picture of my classroom:
Here is a picture of my students making the simple machines. My teacher told me I didn't have to blur out the faces but I did just in case.
Today was suppose to be milkshake day but we didn't make it there:( Now we are going to watch Nanook of the North with our housemother tonight!

Tuesday News
Hello Everyone!
Sorry I didn't post yesterday. During the week there isn't much to say because I am in the classroom until 4:00 then get back to the college around 4:30 eat at 5 then settle in and get ready for bed. Yesterday and today Sam and I observed other classroom because my teacher was in training and her was gone. It was really interesting to see all the grades and the different styles of teaching.
In the 5th grade classroom we were in the teacher gave free time at the end of the day because the students earned it. She has video games, board games, sensory games, and each student has there own computer so they have mindcraft on each computer as well. Today I played play stations nba 2k8 against one of my students and lost by two on his last second dunk. But technically it was a tie but then the teacher said its time to clean up so I started cleaning up and the student dunk the ball and won!
For supper we had steak, potatoes, bread, and many more! It was amazing! Tonight we are watching on the ice with the house mother Ruth!

Sunday-Rest Day:)
Today was a day to catch up on sleep, it was needed for most of us! Most slept until 9 and then went to Catholic Church service. The church was a small building called St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The priest is only at the church 2 weeks because he travels around the northern slope to do services.
What I noticed at church: We still got palms for palm Sunday! They sing same hymns as us. They sing happy birthday to anyone who has a birthday or anniversary. People chat throughout the whole entire services which was something that I wasn't use to. Plus a little girl walked around the church about 5 times. The service was great though and it was great to get to Catholic Service on Palm Sunday and connect with my religion.
Next we came back to the college to eat a delicious brunch! French toast, eggs, potatoes, pancakes, salmon. YUMMY!!!! I had about 4 french toast! It was amazing!!
Last we went into the town to watch snow machine races. We watched young kids race on little snow mobiles. It was amusing and funny!

Piuraagiaqta Festival

There are two main airplane companies that travel into Barrow from what I have noticed Alaska Airlines and Era Airlines. The Alaska Airlines is a larger plane that comes in verus the Era is a smaller plane.
We flew in on Alaska Airlines. The plane is very nice lots of leg room. When we got off the plane you walk down stairs to get off the plane. The plane doesn't hook up to a gate like in Minneapolis. I felt like I was famous!
This is us by a baleen tree! Trees don't exist in Barrow. So they made a tree using baleen and wood. The hut that is in the background is housing for people that come to the summer camps. There are multiple little huts in this area outside of the town.
The snow up here looks so different. It looks like spikes stick out. If you ever seen the movie Frozen the snow looks like how the snow comes out before Elisa puts her magic to it! (bad reference) but it is really fluffy and spiky looking.
This is a picture of their gym. It is very nice. Kids are playing basketball. Basketball is a game that students have been playing for their whole life. It has been around even when their elders were young. The picture on the right is a whale skull. You see whale skulls all around town. They say the whale jaw is 1/3 the size of the whale.
Then we went to the parade as part of the festival. Here are pictures from the parade. Unfortunately the Easter bunny has to show up.
Today Temperature: -2 and a little windy.
Dog sledding
Today we went to the festival in town! Ill share more pictures tonight! But here a few from dog sledding! I had a pretty hard with this but just have to have an open mind!
Lets try some whale
Everyone always is taking about the amazing whale taste! So last night a a wonderful friend we have met let us try some whale.. hmm to describe it chewy, rubbery, and an aquire taste! That's for sure! Im not giving up all though it left a lasting impact!
